Margaret Ann Hall Wingo entered eternal rest on July 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Isle of Wight County, she was born to the late Deacon James A. and Deaconess Annie B. Hall, August 18, 1945. She attended Westside High School in Smithfield, Virginia where she received her early education and graduated in 1964. She furthered her education at Virginia State University majoring in English.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Wingo, Jr., and two siblings, Michael A. Hall and Morris G. Hall, Sr.
Margaret was gainfully employed for a period of time with the Continental Telephone Corporation as a Telephone Operator. She later became the first African American to be hired at Isle of Wight County Department of Social Services (IOWDSS) as an Eligibility Supervisor and retired after 30 years of dedicated service to the community. After retirement, she continued her commitment to community service with the Franklin Department of Social Services and the Surry Department of Social Services.
Margaret was highly organized, an avid reader, gourmet cook, and seamstress. Her true passion was in helping anyone who needed her assistance, without seeking recognition. Her favorite song was "Oh I Want to See Him.
She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and served in several capacities as the Director of Vacation Bible School, Church Clerk, served on the Senior Usher Board, and Youth Usher Board Advisor. Her Civic affiliations included the Home Demonstration Club, Tidewater Council and past State President-Wisteria Temple 545. She was also a cast member in JoMarc Productions until her health began to decline. She was affectionately known as "Wingo, " "Mrs. Wingo" and "Margie" or "Margo. "
Margaret leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter and faithful caregiver, Robin Claud (David) of Franklin, VA; sons, Reginald Wingo (Cindy) of Stafford, VA and Minister Marcus Shearn (Chekaya) of Acworth, Georgia; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Joelene Parker and Cathy Hall of Smithfield, VA; three brothers, William A. Hall (Joyce), of Toano, VA, Tracey L. Hall (Beverly) of Stafford, VA, and James A. Hall (Crystal) of Smithfield, VA; sisters-in-love, Andria Hall of Smithfield, VA, and Diana Wingo of Villarica, GA; godson, Anthony Bowles, Sr. (Nikki) of Roanoke, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
On Friday, July 11, 2025, from 3-6pm viewing will take place at Shivers Funeral Chapel. At 12 pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Smithfield. Interment will follow the service in Mt. Tabor COCIC Cemetery.
