Margaret L. Ward

July 29, 1941 — March 8, 2021

Margaret was born July 29, 1941 in Nansemond County, Virginia to the late George W. Lyons and Margaret W. Lyons and passed from labor to reward at the home of her son, Ricky Ward on Monday, March 8, 2021 as God allowed the sun to set. Besides her parents, preceding her in death were sisters Thelma, Virginia and Francis and a brother, Larry. She attended East Suffolk High School and was employed as a Bookkeeper/Payroll Processor at Peninsula Psychiatric Hospital in Hampton, VA before leaving due to becoming disabled. At an early age, she joined the Diamond Grove Baptist Church & until her health failed, was the most faithful member arriving first on the parking lot every Sunday and often the last to leave should there be hospitality work to be done within the church's Fellowship Hall. Her affiliations with Diamond Grove include member of the Senior Usher Board, Pastors Aide President, Gospel Choir, Hospitality Ministry & Adult Praise Dance Team. Rather than becoming complacent with her disability, Margaret began a Daycare operation out of her home because of her love for "her babies", as she would call them often raising them from infancy to teenagers for she was a constant variable in their lives. A few of her memorable "babies" are, Layla, Louis, Jr., Alyssa, Ethan, Dylan, Landon, Bryce, Nigel, Connor, Autumn, Christian, Aliyah, Ashley, Pumpkin, Taj, Eljay and Xavier. Left to cherish her memory is one daughter, Delvina of Hampton, VA: three sons, Alvin & Darryl (Zena) of Newport News, VA, & Ricky, Sr. (Adrienne) of Suffolk, VA; two grandchildren, Ricky, Jr. of Houston, TX and Brittany of Columbia, SC; one great grandchild, Noah of Columbia, SC; a loving, dedicated, dependable and reliable friend, Eugene, one sister, Arlethia; five brothers, George, Jr. (Archie), James, Sr, (Joyce), Ellerson, Sr. (Barbara), Curtis (Shirley) & Edward; one aunt, Otelia, one uncle, Ollie, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives & friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Little Bethel Baptist Church, Suffolk VA. Space will be limited. Viewing will take place Friday, March 12, 2021 from 4-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Ward family in your thoughts and prayers. View Memorial Pictures
