Louise N. Cargill

March 7, 1945 — April 9, 2024

Smithfield

On April 9, 2024, God called his angel, our mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Louise Nichols Cargill home.

Louise Nichols Cargill was born in Southampton County, Virginia, on March 7, 1945, to the late Roger and Lillian Patterson Nichols, the last of 9 children; Roger, Jr., Maurice, Adelle, Alice, William, Sarah Jane, Nellie Mae and Susie all preceded her in death.

Louise was reared by her godparents, Roy and Martha Sarah Nichols Green (maternal aunt). Louise was educated in Southampton County Schools and graduated from Hayden High School in Franklin, Virginia.

Louise accepted Christ as a young child and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ivor, Virginia. She later united with Christian Home Baptist Church where she faithfully served in the Missionary Circle, Usher Board, Mass Choir, the Golden Age Ministry, Intercessory Prayer and various other committees and ministries.

In December of 1995, she married James E. Cargill who was indeed, the love of her life .As a couple they enjoyed yard work and just simply spending quality time together. After 27 years of faithful service, Louise was blessed to retire from Hillcrest Convalescent Rehabilitation Center as a Virginia Licensed Nursing Assistant and as the Assistant Activity Director for Seniors. During her tenure at the nursing home, Louise was acknowledged as one of the “Best of the Best” through their Employee Recognition Program for her genuine dedication to her work, to her family and to her community.

Louise enjoyed gardening, cooking and helping others. As a doting grandmother, she loved to spoil her grandchildren with her time, attention and most importantly, her love. Her favorite bible verse was Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” and she also found comfort in the 23 rd Psalm. Louise lived by the motto “overcome evil with good”.

She leaves to cherish and honor her memory; her husband, James E. Cargill, her children; Eric Hicks (LaMona), Kimberly Hicks Jones (Paul, Jr.), Sherress Hicks; hergrandchildren; Eric Jr., Paul, III. (PJ), Alexis, Eron, James, Alycia; great-grandchild, Emery Rose; sister-in-law, Lula Mae Nichols and goddaughter, Ashleigh Nichols.

Louise Nichols Cargill will be greatly missed by her family and friends as she was a blessing to all those who had the opportunity to be in her presence.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, the family will accept visitors for a meet and greet from 5-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, a Celebration of Life Service will be held 1pm at Christian Home Baptist Church, Windsor, VA. Please keep the Nichols - Cargill family in your thoughts and prayers.
