Lorraine Graves

Lorraine Brown Graves, 80, of Suffolk, VA and widow of James B. Graves Sr. departed this life on Friday August 29, 2025. She was born on October 6, 1944, to the late George Hayden and Julia B. Brown.

She was a graduate of Westside High School, Smithfield, VA, Class of 1963.

Lorraine retired from the Suffolk Public School System after 33 years of service.

She was a lifelong and dedicated member of Christian Home Baptist Church where she served on the Usher board, Choir, Hospitality and Golden Age Ministries.

In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her brothers, Wille T. Brown, George Hayden Brown Jr., and Bernard Brown Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Cynthia Graves, Javonda Wright (Clint Sr.), both of Suffolk; three sons, Quentin Graves (Felicia), of Cincinnati, Ohio, 1SG (Ret) James B. Graves Jr., of El Paso, Texas and Terence Graves, of Washington DC, three sisters; Cassandra Avant (Joe), Cathryn Brown and Cathy Lee (Alvin); one brother, James Brown; four sisters-in-law; Margaret Brown, Barbara Brown, Paulette Cypress (Frissell) and Tessie Batten and brothers-in-law Bishop Oried Graves (Edna), Morris Graves (Sherri Ann), 10 grandchildren; Torsha Graves, Shelton Graves, Derek Wright (Melanie), Shanice Graves, Terence M. Graves, Nicholas Graves, Skylar Daniels (Drew), Clint Wright Jr., Akari Smith and Destinee Wright, four great-granddaughters, Amiyah Beale, Alexa Graves, Bo’Rayel Jones, Stormi Daniels, Sarai and Naomi Wright; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

On Friday, September 05, 2025, viewing will take place from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am on Saturday, September 06,2025 at Christian Home Baptist Church, 20123 Longview Drive, Windsor, VA 23487. Interment will follow in the Christian Home Church Cemetery. Please keep the Brown-Graves family in your prayers.
