Linwood M. Delk

d. September 14, 2014

On Sunday, September 14, 2014, Linwood received an immediate call from Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; and, he answered without hesitation. Linwood was affectionately known as "Big Red" or "Red" to family members and friends. Linwood was educated in the Isle of Wight School System. He had an extensive past employment with Smithfield Foods, Moody Sanitation Company, and Vernon Ray Edwards Painting, Inc. Linwood loved children and he had a special affection for his nieces and nephews. He was a "no-nonsense" kind of guy who enjoyed boxing, dancing, joking, and making people laugh. Linwood was always about calling "Mom" everyday, wanting to know what tasks she needed completed, always being "Momma's baby boy". Linwood's response to life problems was consistently and often saying "God Got It!" and "God won't put any more on you than you can bare". Linwood loved family and thought nothing of protecting them. Linwood is preceded in death by his sister, Valerie D. Judkins. Linwood is survived by his mother, Burnette Delk of Smithfield, Virginia; sisters, Brenda Carter, Kathy Walker (Allen), LaFrances Edwards, and Alicia Delk all of Smithfield, Virginia; Fentre Wilson (John), Gloria Bagley of Suffolk, Virginia; Terry Delk of Hampton, Virginia; Doris Anderson, Darlene Johnson, Linda Johnson of Newport News, Virginia; brothers, Curtis Delk of Norfolk, Virginia, Tyrone Delk (Sophia), Linwood Cutler and Morris Cutler of Smithfield, Virginia; Larry Johnson of Newport News, Virginia; three aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a special friend, Denise Uzzle-Harrell. His father preceded him in death. A Funeral service will be held 12 noon Friday September 19, 2014 at Mt. Tabor COGIC. Arrangements entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
