On June 17, 2026, the Lord called His humble servant, Lillie Cofer Todd Newby, home to eternal rest and glory. Surrounded by the love and memories of those whose lives she touched, Lillie departed this earthly life, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, strength, and service that will continue to inspire generations to come.

Lillie Cofer Todd Newby was born on January 8, 1943, in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, to the late Edward Lee Cofer and Jennie B. Delk Cofer. From her earliest days, she was known for her warm spirit, determined nature, and unwavering devotion to family and community. She was raised with strong values that would guide her throughout her life and become the foundation of her character.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert T. Newby; her sister, Cora Johnson; and her brother, Edward L. Cofer Jr. Though she deeply missed those who went before her, she carried their memories in her heart and honored them through the love and care she showed to others.

Lillie leaves to cherish her precious memories two devoted children: her son, Willie Ray Todd and his spouse, Jacqueline Todd; and her daughter, Barbetta Marche Todd. She is also survived by her loving siblings: Virginia Walker and her spouse, Luther Walker; Martin Cofer Sr.; and Joyce C. Jarrett. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Rashuan Todd and his spouse, Jasmine Todd; and Jazemine Evans and her spouse, Willie Evans Jr. She was especially proud of her great-grandchild, Addison Lillie Todd, whose name serves as a lasting tribute to her enduring influence and love.

She also leaves behind her bonus daughter, Angela S. Eley, Diana Coleman a loving sister-in-law, along with a host of devoted cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, extended family members, treasured friends, and her beloved church family.

Affectionately known as “Lillie Mae” by family and friends, she was a woman of remarkable talents and endless determination. Even as a young girl, she displayed an entrepreneurial spirit and a natural gift for helping others. Her talents were many and varied, ranging from haircare and skincare to childcare and providing guidance and support to neighbors and friends. She was often the person others turned to for wisdom, encouragement, and practical help. Her home was a place of comfort, fellowship, and open doors for those in need.

Lillie dedicated more than 39 years of faithful service to Gwatney Foods, where she earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues through her strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to excellence. She took pride in her work and believed in giving her best in every endeavor. Her dedication and perseverance were a reflection of the values she carried throughout her life.

A gifted cook and gracious hostess, Lillie found immense joy in preparing meals and bringing family together around the table. Her kitchen was often filled with laughter, stories, and the comforting aromas of meals prepared with love. For her, food was more than nourishment it was a way to express care, create memories, and strengthen family bonds. Many family traditions and cherished gatherings were made special because of her loving touch.

Lillie’s life was defined by her deep love for family, her servant’s heart, and her steadfast commitment to helping others. She was the epitome of strength and perseverance, facing life’s challenges with courage, dignity, and grace. Her selflessness was evident in the countless acts of kindness she extended to her community, family, friends, and anyone in need. Whether offering a listening ear, a word of encouragement, a helping hand, or a warm meal, she gave generously and without hesitation.

Her faith sustained her throughout her life and guided her actions each day. She believed in treating others with compassion, respect, and understanding, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. Her wisdom, gentle spirit, and unwavering love created a foundation upon which her family continues to stand.

Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, the lessons she taught, the love she shared, and the memories she created will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy of faith, service, resilience, and unconditional love will continue to shine brightly through her family and all whose lives were blessed by her presence.

Well done, thy good and faithful servant. Rest in eternal peace, Lillie Mae. You will forever be loved, remembered, and cherished.

On Thursday, June 25, 2026, viewing will take place from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. At 1 pm on Friday, June 26, 2026, a Celebration of Life will be held at Main Street Baptist Church. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
