Lewarren Edwin Burrell

November 14, 1964 — May 12, 2019

Lewarren Burrell, known as "Batman or "Bat"" unexpectedly entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 12, 2019. He was a resident of Smithfield, Virginia, and was born November 14, 1964 in Suffolk, Virginia. Batman attended Smithfield High School and was currently employed by Smithfield North, and has worked on the "Cut Floor" for 14 years. Prior to this employment, he had been employed with RCS and Riverside Hospital. Batman had a passion for fishing with his longtime fishing partner, John Hargrave. On any given day, there would be the dynamic duo fishing. Many of us passing through that area would stop by or jump beep our horns. Batman also had a witty sense of humor, always clowning, telling jokes, just to make someone's day or to make them laugh. The family was told that he kept his peers in "stitches," and they looked forward to seeing him at work. He is also known for sitting on his mom's porch with his family and friends, and listening to some good old school music. While he loved his family and friends, Bat truly loved his mom. Batman leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Burnette Ruspus, of Smithfield, VA; four children, Arteaka Snellings-Bowden (Roderick) of Chesapeake, VA; Brandon Burrell of Newport News, VA; Lewarren "LJ" Burrell, Jr., of Newport News, VA; Jasmine Burrell of Newport News, VA; seven siblings, Carolyn Brown of Woodbridge, VA; Artistine Robinson (Kevin) of Suffolk, VA; Tracy Hill of Newport News, VA; Anthony Turner (Valarie) of Dendron, VA; Almeta Smith (Ron) of Portsmouth, VA; Seanta Burrell of Smithfield, VA; and god-brother Wilton "Kelly" Keller (Cynthia) of Greensboro, NC; special aunt, Mary Young (Hurley) of Suffolk, VA; four grandsons, Bejari, Keontae, Synceer and Zaiden; three granddaughters, Amari, Saniyah and Nievah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his special friend Maxine Duck. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12 pm Monday, May 20, 2019 at Main Street Baptist Church. Viewing will take place Sunday May 19, 2019 from 2-5 at the Chapel. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
