Lee Talmadge Copeland, Sr.

With Saddened hearts the Copeland Family has to announce the death of their loved one, Lee T. Copeland, Sr. Lee T. Copeland, 71 passed away from this life on Saturday June 26, 2021. Born in Suffolk, Virginia, Lee T. was the son of the late Raymond J. Copeland and Etta V. Copeland of Holland, VA (Suffolk). Lee T. graduated from Southwestern High School and Norfolk State University. He was an 82nd Airborne Paratrooper at Fort Bragg, NC. Along with his many accomplishments he was Director of Education for the NALC -Union State Official, Union President for Branch 1112 Letter Carriers for 12 years. He also was tapped by Delegate J. Samuel Glasscock to serve on the Transportation Commission for the State of Virginia. Lee T. performed the duties of a letter carrier for 30 years; after which decided to teach in the Christian schools. He also gave law enforcement a try by becoming a correctional officer. From this profession he also retired. Deciding he was not finished yet; he then became a Security Officer in Suffolk Public Schools. Lee T. Copeland was predeceased by his daughter Lesa P. Copeland and brother Raymond J. Copeland, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Joyce Jordan Copeland; sons; Lee T. Copeland, Jr. and Jordan J. Copeland; grandchildren, Nathan T. Copeland and Hailey E. Copeland; sisters; Janice M. Copeland and Muriel Council; brothers; Joseph H. Copeland and Roderick K. Copeland; uncle, Enoch C. Copeland; aunts, Katie Knight Hilda Abram and Jean Copeland; sister’s in-law, Marjorie Copeland, Crystal Copeland and Phyllis Copeland; brother in-law, James Council; beloved nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. A Drive Up Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 pm Friday July 2, 2021, at Laurel Hill United Church of Christ. 8001 South Quay Rd, Suffolk, VA 23437. Viewing will take place from 4-6 pm Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please Keep the Copeland family in your thoughts and prayers.
