LaTroy Gerard Key passed away peacefully at Chesapeake Regional Hospital in Chesapeake, VA. on Sunday, July 5, 2026 . Born on February 23, 1964 in Isle of Wight County to Willie Nathaniel and Priscilla Clarice Hardy Key. He proudly called Rushmere, Virginia home and attended school in Smithfield.
LaTroy was a free spirit who lived his life on his own terms and found joy in the simple things. He loved football, playing pool and never missed a chance to two -step. He also had a talent for repairing vehicles and making them shine. As the youngest child until Malcolm was born he shared a special bond with his mother.
He was preceded in death by his parents Priscilla Clarice Hardy Key and Willie “Chubby” Nathaniel Key, Jr., his maternal grandparents, Wallace Lee and Grace Lee Hardy; his aunts and uncles, Melvin Hardy (Effie), Wallace L. hardy, Jr., Vernell Hardy Wrenn (Sheridan Bernard), Russell Key and George Kea. Although brothers LaTroy’s father, Willie spelled the name “Key"
LaTroy is survived by his children, LaTroy Urquhart, Ciara Urquhart- Passante (Peter), Antarian Urquhart (Journei) and others; his siblings, Eric Key, Malcolm Antonio Key; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, cousins and other relatives.
He also leaves behind his aunts and uncles, Jerrine Hardy Ford (Charles), Gloria Edwards Hardy and Vernon Hardy (Lorine).
Those who knew LaTroy will remember his sense of humor, the friendships he built and the joy he brought to others. Though he is no longer with us his memory lives on through the lives he touched and the cherished memories of those who knew him best.
On Tuesday, July 14, 2026 viewing will take place from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at the chapel. Interment will follow the service in the First Gravel Hill Church Cemetery. Please keep the Key family in your prayers.
