Larry T. Cross

August 31, 1949 — March 9, 2020

Larry T. Cross Affectionately known as Tommy, Larry Cross passed away at 12:03 pm on March 9, 2020. He was born to the late Charlie J. and Lula B. Cross on August 31, 1949. He was the sixth of seven kids. He was born and raised in Suffolk, Virginia where he resided all his life. Larry was truly one of a kind. He was always spreading his wisdom and his smile wherever he went. Larry was educated in the Suffolk Public School system. He went to Florence Bowser Elementary (now Florence Grady) when there were only 4 classrooms in the building. He graduated from John F. Kennedy in 1967. He went on to Norfolk State University, but came home after 2 years to help care for his parents. He was a part of the Driver Volunteer Fire Department. He went into the military in 1970, where he was in military intelligence. He was discharged in 1973. He started working for the state with VDOT and was a supervisor until he retired after 36 years. While working there, he ran his own business, ABC Janitorial and Landscaping, which he ran until a few years ago when his health started to decline drastically. He loved what he did, and he loved to work. He worked and did all he could till he came out on disability in 2003. Larry was a man of integrity and a man of God. He was a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church for at least 30 years. He was a member of the Male Chorus, the Men's Ministry, and a very loyal and dedicated member of the trustee family. He was a part of The Kingsmen of Tidewater, a male chorus in the Tidewater area. He loved going to engagements and rehearsal and loved singing anything by The Canton Spirituals. If you knew him, you know he loved his family. He always wanted to make sure they were taken care for and protected. He loved being the planner of any major holiday events, from cookouts, family dinners for Mother's and Father's Day and especially Christmas dinner. Everyone loved talking, laughing and joking with him, his laugh was contagious and he loved to make light of any situation he went through. In 2009, his health began to take a major decline. However, that did not stop him. He went through shingles, survived Prostate Cancer, had several heart attacks, strokes, and lost the sight in his left eye in 2008, but that did not stop him from giving his all in everything he did. Larry was predeceased by his parents Charlie J. and Lula Cross, two siblings, Richard and Charlie J. Cross Jr, and son Larry Cross Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 35 years, Felicia Cross, one daughter, Albertha B. Cross, one son Marcus T. Fenner, and his mother- in- law Beatrice Blow. He also leaves two lovingly and spiritually adopted kids, Felton A. Blow Jr, and Cassandra Robinson, two sisters Marcia Cross and Angel Cross (Christopher), two brothers Ronald Cross (Maria), and Horace Cross (Mariea), three best friends, Coley Copeland III, Tim Harris and Dave Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He will truly be missed.
