Kevin Eddie Johnson was touched by God on Tuesday morning September 16, 2025 at 6:55 a.m. at Norfolk General Heart Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. God saw that his heart problems was not getting any better and he visited him early in the morning and told Kevin to close his eyes and lay his head on my shoulder and I will take you home with me.
Kevin was the son of Calvin and Edna Johnson. He lived in Smithfield all his life. He completed high school and was very interested in Mortuary Science. He had often talked about becoming a mortician. He was an attendant at Pretlow Chapman Funeral Home until Mr. James Chapman retired. After which he approached Pastor K. D. Shivers and asked if he could work with Shivers Funeral Chapel. He had a deep passion for serving grieving families. He saw it not just as a profession, but as a calling.
Kevin was a member of Solomon’s Temple Church of Smithfield, Virginia. He attended until his health began to fail.
Kevin was the grandson of Eddie and Virginia Allmond. People often said he looked like his grandad Eddie Allmond.
He was preceded in death by his brother Cederic Touche who only lived three days; uncle Earl and aunt Carolyn Allmond; grandmother Lena Johnson; grandparents Eddie and Virginia Allmond and his cousin Frederick Johnson, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his parents Calvin and Edna Johnson; brother Avanti Lamar Johnson of Georgia and sister-in-law Nicole and their two daughters Laquetta and Jaquetta; close friends Moeshia and Doccell Burkley of Wakefield, Virginia who never stopped praying for him; aunt Annette Goodman; great aunt Frances Perry; godmother Sandra and godfather Joseph Key and a host of relatives and friends.
His last words to his mom were “I am fine.” We believe that if you could talk to him today, he would say “I am free, I am free. No more chains holding me. It’s just a blessing. I am free.”
We have so many memories. We are blessed to know he is out of pain. He would always tell his doctors, “God is going to Heal Me.”
On Monday September 22, 2025, from 3-5 pm viewing will take place at Shivers Funeral Chapel, 12749 Courthouse Highway, Smithfield, VA 23430. On Tuesday at 11 am a Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Chapel. Please keep the Johnson family in your thoughts and prayers.
