“When I Have Gone The Last Mile Of The Way”
If someone asked for me, tell them heaven is where I will be. I have finished all my life’s chores and made my last delivery to the gates of heaven. Now I will forever be driving or resting on Heaven’s golden roads.
Junius Adrian Tynes peacefully departed this life on July 10, 2025, five days after his 75th birthday and a life well-lived in service to his family, country, and community. Born on a hot July day in 1950 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, Adrian was the beloved son of the late Junius and Marguerite Pugh Tynes.
Adrian received his education in the Isle of Wight County School System, where he distinguished himself as an athlete at Westside High School before graduating from Smithfield High School in June 1970. Following his graduation, Adrian proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he was assigned to the USNS Raleigh.
After completing his military service, Adrian pursued his lifelong passion and became an independent professional truck driver. For 55 years, he traveled the highways and byways of the United States and Canada, finding joy and purpose in every mile traveled. The open road became his second home, and he embraced each journey with enthusiasm and dedication.
Adrian retired in June 2022, though he did so with some apprehension about leaving behind the livelihood and hobby that had defined so much of his life exploring the many highways, roads, and bridges that had been his companions for decades.
Adrian is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Dr. Denise Newby Tynes, and his three cherished daughters: Asten Lee Adrian Tynes, Toisha Tynes, and Jamala T. Hairston. He is also survived by his siblings: Pernell Tynes (Claudia), Joyce Tynes, and Kelvin Tynes (Lorrie), three grandchildren: Xavier, Malcolm and Laila, aunt Eunice T. Briley, uncle, Luther Walker (Virginia), in-laws Lee (Betty), Morris, Douglas (Beverly), Jenette, Sandra, and a host of family and friends. Including his special friends James Alligood and Roger Brown, the Bradby, Hampton, and Gilbert families all of whom will wholeheartedly miss his presence.
Adrian’s legacy of love, family, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him. His life exemplified dedication, hard work, and the importance of family bonds that transcend earthly boundaries.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
