Joyce Jones Newby

Joyce O’Dell Newby was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and an aunt. She departed this life on Monday, November 10, 2025.at Waverly Rehab & Healthcare Center.

She was born to the late Lee O’Dell Jones, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Jones of Williamsburg, Virginia. She graduated from York County High School.

Joyce worked at Quickstop in Surry County where she was a cook. She enjoyed music and her husband and children and grandkids.

Joyce was preceded in death by her brothers the late Donald Ray Jones and Paul Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Clarence P. Newby, Sr.; seven children Cheryce Newby, Lakisha Newby, Latrice Newby, Clarence Newby, Jr., Arkime Newby (Stephanie), Alton Newby (Laquand), and Clarence Newby, III (Francis); fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister Karen Renyae Hundley; brothers Lee O’Dell Jones, Jr., Kenneth Ronnell Jones (Alicia) and Donald Ray Jones, Sr.; sisters-in-law Carolyn Newby, Marolyn Eavens, Evette Lorraine Newby, Harriet Newby, Earnestine Graham Newby, and Evelyn Newby; brothers-in-law Leonard Newby, Terrence Newby, Curry Newby, Herman Parson and Mustafa Abdullah and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and friends.

On Sunday, November 16, 2025 viewing will take place from 2-5pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00pm on Monday, November 17, 2025 at the Chapel. Please keep the Jones and Newby family in your prayers.
