On April 20, 2025, our sweet Joyce C. Delk departed this life in Sentara Obici Hospital. Joyce was born on March 12, 1949, in Whitaker, North Carolina to the late Leonard Pittman, Sr. and Elizabeth James. She was the oldest of nine children. She moved to Isle of Wight County, where she married Ernest H. Delk on June 25, 1966. They shared a life together for fifty-eight years. They loved each other to the very end.
Lil Joyce, as she was often called, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She dedicated the majority of her life helping others. She became a private duty nurse and for years she helped the elderly, and she loved it. If you knew her, then you knew she loved her family and had the biggest heart when it came to kids. She never met a stranger. She was always laughing and dancing. She had a joyous and loving personality that will always be remembered.
Joyce is preceded in death by her son Stevie H. Delk, her sisters Aletha Pittman and Elizabeth James and her brother Leonard Pittman, Jr.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memory her husband Ernest H. Delk; her three children Steven Ray Delk of Richmond, Virginia, Joretta Nicole Delk of Hampton, Virginia, and Rafeal JoErnest Delk of Hampton, Virginia; her siblings Deloris Rogers (James Jr.) of Portsmouth, Virginia, Helen Cutler of Franklin, Virginia, Alonzo Pittman (Joyce) of Suffolk, Virginia, Doris Pittman of Windsor, Virginia and Priscilla Pittman of Zuni, Virginia; six grandchildren Jamaree, Janiya, Rafeal Jr., Malayha, Passion (Pie) and Jamir and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
