Josephine Allmond Burch

Her Life Story Deacon Josephine Allmond Burch, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, July 17, 2017 at Sentara CarePlex Hospital, Hampton, Virginia. Josephine was born on September 25, 1939 in Isle of Wight County, Smithfield, VA to the late Reverend Joseph and Susie Allmond. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, sister and daughter Bernice Maria Bolden. Josephine graduated from Isle of Wight County Training School in 1957 and later received college degrees in Criminal Justice and Police Science from both Thomas Nelson Community College and St. Leo College. She worked for Newport News Department of Juvenile Services for 35.5 years and retired on April 30, 2009. In addition, she also served as Event Coordinator for the United Way Fund for 15 years. She married Sonnie Lee Burch on July 28, 1962 in Newport News, VA. Together they had three daughters, Jocelyn Craddock, Sonja Brown and Bernice Bolden. Josephine accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a Charter Member of World Victory Church and Life Center, she was a member of the First Planning Committee and a soloist in the Cathedral Choir, the Gospel Choir and the Adult Choir. She was also involved in multiple ministries and programs, such as the Deacon Board, WIMPY Ministry, Projects/Building Committee, the School Supply and the American Red Cross Donors Ministries. She was also responsible for the Sunday Program for the Isle of Wight County Training School Class Reunion for many years-being a very active member of the Class of 1957. Blessed to cherish her memories are her loving and devoted daughters, Jocelyn Craddock and Sonja Brown; Grandchildren: Jessica Craddock, Somona Brown, Courtney Fields, Terence Brown, Isiah Fields, Christian Craddock and Angelica Bolden; Great-Grandchildren: Josiah and Malachi Copeland; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at World Victory Church And Life Center Church, Newport News, Va. Viewing will be from 4-7pm on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the chapel. Interment will be in the New Jones Grove Baptist Church cemetery, Windsor, Va. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
