Joe Louis Butler departed this Earthly life on Saturday, Sept 4, 2021 surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren. Joe or “Flatbush” as he was affectionately called was born August 3, 1937 to the late Deacon Isaac Butler & Mable Butler. Joe was a lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County until his death. Joe received Christ at an early age and attended Ebenezer Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board under the leadership of Rev. William Smith and sang in the choir. Joe loved singing especially quartets. Joe was a member of the Gospel Harmoneers of Ivor, Ava in his earlier years and continued to attend their engagements. Joe was a trucker and drove commercially for 42 years before retiring. Joe was preceded in death by both his parents, siblings, Alice, Gracie, Samuel, Margaret and Melvin Sr., also his loving devoted wife Frances just 8 months ago.He leaves his legacy to cherish to his daughters; Gwendolyn Kindred of Chesapeake, Va, Colleen Butler of Windsor, Va, Tara Coats (Darick) of Suffolk, Va, and his son, Gerald Butler of North Carolina. Nine grandchildren, Robbrel Kindred (Tarja), Dontrel Kindred, Bianco Butler (Misty), Endia Butler, Brittany Blow, Eriahna Banks, Trayvon Butler, Ja’Corey Winslow (Amber), and Tyree’ Winslow; 11 great grandchildren, Kengsley, Serenity, Aunica, Jaden, A’Myiah, Cannon, Majesty ,Ny’Alei, Chance ,Kaison and Jy’Aire. Sisters; Romaine Warren and Thelma Saunders and 2 Brothers, James Butler Sr and Willie Paul Butler. Joe was a kind man, a loving man and loved people and Gods Word. He was a family man but had a fond love for outdoors where you could find him gardening or working on a lawnmower. His presence will be sorely missed especially to Tyree’ and Dontrel. He left a great deal of wisdom and the blueprint for Family. He was a great Father, Husband and Grandfather who loved his Family dearly. A Graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Gilfield Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will take place on Thursday, September 09, 2021 at the chapel.
