Ms. Jean Waller departed this life on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, Virginia. She was the mother of Chaun Waller and the daughter of the late Carl and Wilhelmina Waller.
Jean accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was baptized in the James River and joined Lebanon Baptist Church where she remained until her death. Although she was unable to attend regularly in the later years of her illness, Jean served faithfully at Lebanon Baptist. Jean was a youth choir member and usher. As an adult she served as the Youth Choir Director, president of the pastor’s aid committee and, volunteered with many summer Vacation Bible Schools. When not serving her church, Jean lent her efforts to the Salvation Army’s fundraising as a Bell Ringer.
Jean graduated from L. P. Jackson in 1964 and went on to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Norfolk State University and later a Master’s in Education from Virginia State University. This allowed her to become a teacher for over 30 years. Jean taught in public schools in Suffolk City, Isle of Wight and Surry Counties.
Jean was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. In addition to her loving and devoted son Chaun, Jean leaves to cherish her memory but mourn her loss her granddaughter Taylor Waller; grandson Brandon Harris; great granddaughters Rhilynne and Madilynne Harris; sisters Geraldine Brackett, Winifred Ferguson, Gloria W. Coleman (Eddie); brothers Lawrence Waller, Bruce Waller (Michelle) and Lloyd Waller; her only living aunt Emma Clayton and her sister-in-law Doris Waller. Additionally, Jean held special fondness for niece Brenda Tynes and nephew Kevin Brackett who were raised in the Waller household also. She will most assuredly be missed by her many other nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
