James L. Whitehead, Jr.

On September 13, 1963, God blessed Ora Estelle Whitehead and James Whitehead, Sr. with a beautiful baby boy James Lee Whitehead, Jr.
James, also known as Junie, was raised in a loving Christian home with his only sister Cynthia (Jeanette) Whitehead, who adored him. Though his father passed away when James was at the young age of 5, Estelle persevered and raised Jeanette and Junie as a single mother with the support of a plethora of family members.
James attended Smithfield High School and graduated in 1981 and followed his studies through at Virginia State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. James started working at UPS during college and worked other various jobs like MCI and EBA where he met his love, Victoria. He continued as a manager at HSBC where he made lifelong connections. During this time, he met his brother from another mother, Timothy Reese, who gave him a second chance at life. His most recent endeavors led him to real estate where he worked for Bell Tower Real Estate Team, which he thoroughly enjoyed and found great pleasure helping others.
Style has always run in the Whitehead family. James has always been known to be a sharp dresser no matter the occasion. James’s ability to build his wardrobe was unmatched. Over the years he may have run into a few challenges but dressing surely wasn’t one! In his free time, James enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Whenever he could, James would help Victoria with her at home daycare business because James loved the kids and all kids loved James! He loved watching sports especially games that included his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, while devouring delicious homecooked meals from his wife. James loved going to Mary J. Blige and Jazz concerts with his soul mate Victoria, never missing a chance to live life to the fullest. God called his angel James home on February 21, 2022.
He is preceded in death by both parents. His memories in life will be honored by his devoted and loving wife Victoria Whitehead, caring sister Cynthia Whitehead (Smithfield, VA), son William Clark (Precious of Shirley, NY) and daughters Shirley Clark and Tori Clark (Hampton, VA); grandsons Khalid Cissay, Andrew Clark, Steven Smith, only granddaughter Autumn Clark, and a host of other Uncles, Aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, and friends. With the impact he made and number of lives he touched, James will be greatly missed!
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 pm Friday, March 4, 2022 at Main Street Baptist Church Mission Center. Viewing will take place from 4-6 pm Thursday March 3, 2022 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Whitehead family in your thoughts and prayers. View Memorial Images
