Stith, affectionately called "Dick" transitioned peacefully on September 1, 2020 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. James was born in Sussex County on September 14, 1933, to the late Henry and Rosa Stith. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Vivian Savage Stith. At a young age, James joined Union Hill United Church of Christ in Sedley, VA. Later, after completing school in Sussex County James became a member of the United States Army. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA. James lived in Smithfield, VA for over 45 years before moving to Newport News, VA. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Vivian Savage Stith and they were blessed with one son Derek Stith (Tiffany) of Hampton, VA; and two granddaughters; Jacaia Ellis and Kayla Holston; one great-grandson Peter James Kayod Akore Olanitori III. He leaves to cherish three sisters; Mary Harris, Marion Rubiano, Valesse Menefield, and one brother Henry Stith. He was preceded in death by three brothers; Harold Stith, Charles Stith, and Robert Stith. A Graveside Service will be held 11 am Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA 23434. Public viewing will take place form 4-6 pm Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mr. Stith is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Stith Family in your prayers.

A Graveside Service will be held 11 am Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA 23434. Public viewing will take place form 4-6 pm Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mr. Stith is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel.
