James Russell 69, of Newport News, Virginia followed Jesus to his prepared home on Sunday, November 02, 2014. He was born on May 16, 1945 in Newport News, Virginia to the late Bessie Bradshaw Jordan and James Russell Sr. James retired from Phoenix Steel in Pennsylvania and later moved back to Virginia where he worked different jobs; Gwaltney Meat Packing Company, General Electric, Portsmouth Paint Company, and taxi services. He enjoyed the sound of laughter from family and friends and a hot cup of coffee. Left to cherish his memory and love two sons, James Russell III of Delaware, Maryland, Kevin Russell of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ; one daughter Marlo Freeman of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a sweet and loving spirited sister Arnetta Bradshaw Batten of Smithfield, Va; one brother Lawrence Batten of Smithfield; one aunt Violet Bradshaw of Brooklyn, New York and a special friend Ellen Dayron of Newport News, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, extended family members, and friends. A Funeral Service will be held 1PM Friday, November 07, 2014 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing Friday from 11am -1pm at the chapel prior to the funeral service. Interment will be private.
