James N. Porter, III transitioned from this life on Saturday, September 27, 2025 in Smithfield, Virginia.
He was born July 23,1962 to the late James Jr., and Beatrice Porter in Suffolk, VA
James was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend whose vibrant spirit, kind heart and unforgettable presence touched the lives of everyone who knew him. His life, though tragically cut short was filled with love, laughter and meaning. James was a member of Kingdom Hall where he accepted the Lord as his Savior.
He faithfully served the City of Suffolk for 37 years and was just weeks away from retirement, planned for October 31, 2025. JP was a Minnesota Vikings fan and loved playing spades, bid whist and Tunk.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 24 years together for 40 years Sandra J. Porter; 5 children Lisa Robinson of Hampton, VA, Antoine Worrell, (Jewel) of Suffolk, VA, Kimberly Robinson of Smithfield, VA, Lekisha Brown of Suffolk, VA and LeVar Porter of Hampton, VA, a bonus son Courtney Artis and a godson Rico, 2 sisters; Lelia Patterson and Norma Carroll (robert0 both of Suffolk, VA, 17 grandchildren, 18 greatgrandchildren a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

On Thursday, October 2, 2025, viewing will be held from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. At 12pm on Friday, October 3, 2025, a Celebration of Life will be held at Brown's A.M.E. Church. Interment will be private. Please keep the Porter family in your thoughts and prayers.
