James E. Jones

On January 20, 2021 softly and tenderly The Almighty God whispered in the ear of his Son James E."AL" Jones " that it was time for him to rest from his labor. James was a resident of Freeney Avenue, Suffolk, Virginia upon his return from Newark New Jersey. He was the loving husband of Mae F. Jones, father of 8 children, step father to 4 children, grandfather to 24 grandchildren, grandfather to 5 step grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. God allowed James 83 years to impart wisdom into the many lives he touched. His presence will truly be missed. "Al" was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy (Dot) Jones Hargrove - (Robert Hargrove "Bob"), brothers Joseph Jones, Vernon Jones and Linwood Jones Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Mae F. Jones, children Aldrain Godwin (Belinda), Dwight Godwin (Denise), Angela Godwin, Duke Godwin (Betty), Felecia Godwin, Felt Godwin (Lisa), Keith Godwin (Arlene) and Karen Crabtree (Doyle). Step children Tonya Cherry, Kyle Cherry, Bobby Cherry and Earl Cherry. 24 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Sister in-laws Jeanette Jones and Deloris Wood (Eli), brother in-law Willie Mitchell (Jean), he also leaves to treasure his memory his extended family Raymond & Mary Young along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Graveside Celebration will be held 11am Monday, January 25, 2021 at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery. Viewing will take place Sunday, January 24, 2021 from 2-4 pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel.
