Iris C. Allmond-Ricks transitioned from this life on October 31, 2020 after a long battle with her health.
She was preceded in death by her Father: Zollie L. Allmond, Mother: Susie P. H. Allmond, Sisters: Mary Jane Richard Ricardson, and Mildred C. Mann, and Brother: Wilbert L. Allmond. Iris was born in Nansemond County, Suffolk, VA March 7, 1953 however, lived in Smithfield, VA with her son and two granddaughters where she attended Jones of Grove Baptist Church.
She graduated from Smithfield High School June 1972. After searching for a career and working several jobs, she received her Certified Nurses Aid certification from Smithfield Health Department February 1994. For over 20 years she was employed by Smithfield Health Department where she devoted her life serving others with their chronic illness. Her legacy was a book she created (Allmond/Holliman Family Tree) connecting generations of family history.
She is survived by her son SFC Lonell Z. Ricks, United States Army, Smithfield, VA, two granddaughters: Ariana K. Ricks, Kendall J Ricks (Smithfield, VA), two sisters: Vernice V Allmond (Corona, NY), Marquetta D. Allmond-Anderson (Suffolk, VA): two brothers, Zollie E. Allmond (Virginia Beach, VA), Vincent B. Allmond (Smithfield, VA), one sister-in law, Catherine Reeves-Allmond (Virginia Beach, VA), and a hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Graveside Celebration will be held 12pm Friday, November 6, 2020 at Ebenezer Cemetery Windsor, VA. Viewing will take place Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 4-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel.
