Hortense Robinson Harrell

Hortense Bernice Harrell, 81, entered eternal rest in the early morning of Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia. She was born October 23, 1943, to the late Horace and Edith Robinson of Isle of Wight County. She was a member of Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church where she enjoyed singing in the Senior Choir and the Golden Age Choir. She loved the fellowship of other members, family, friends and visitors.

Hortense had a great appreciation for gardening and planted a garden every year for many, many years. She took pride in doing so as well and tending to her flowerbed around her home. She liked to cook, especially for others. Some of her favorite things to prepare were homemade ice cream, lemon cakes, fruitcakes and pig feet. Her grandkids always requested her pancakes when they visited.

She retired from Gwaltney after over 35 years of service. Towards the end of her time at Gwaltney, she took an interest in nursing and worked for many persons in the Smithfield and Carrollton area on weekends, after receiving her CNA. She adored the families that she cared for and did so until her health started to decline.

She was preceded in death by her sisters: Vernie B. Newsome, Lillie Mae Robinson, Eunice Brown and Elnora Whitley - Brothers: Horace Jr., Clarence, Marvin and Theodore Robinson and Great-grandson Tyree Bailey

Hortense leaves behind four children to cherish her memories: Matthew of Hampton, VA, Carl of Surry, VA, Angelique Gray of Hampton, VA and Tyrone (Donna) of Richmond, VA; - Two siblings Jonie Ann Davis of Carrollton, VA and William Robinson (Lillian) of Hampton, VA; - Grandchildren: - Amber and Javonn Robinson, Travis Bailey, Carlos Branch, Nouri and Bria Gray and Mina Robinson; Great-grandchildren: - Jasiel Riddick, Kelly Golden III, Bella Golden, Evelyn, Ayvah, Jakari and Boston Robinson, Omari and Tristan Bailey, Lauryn and Carson Branch, Zay McGowan; - and a host of beautiful and loving nieces, nephews, cousins and everlasting friends.

A special tribute to Mrs. Dorothy McClinton, a friend of 50+ years and Toni Picott, caregiver and loving friend..

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 12pm Saturday, June 07, 2025 at Campbell's Chapel AME Church. Interment will be private. Please keep the Robinson- Harrell family in your prayers.
