Harriet Newby Carter, 59, a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend departed this life on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 in her residence. She was born to Harry Newby Jr. and the late Evelyn P. Newby of Spring Grove, Virginia. She was fully dedicated to her husband, kids, and her chihuahua, CoCo. Harriet was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn P. Newby and her sister, Lorenda Bowden.
A Drive up Service will be held 11 am Tuesday August 18, 2020 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place from 4-6 pm Monday at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Carter is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Carter and Newby Family in your prayers.She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Cleveland Carter; two children Kenesha Newby and Trevione Newby; her father, Harry Newby Jr. of Surry, Virginia; six brothers: Hermon Parson (Helen) of Surry, Virginia, Curry Newby (Evora) of Smithfield, Virginia, Clarence Newby (Joyce) of Dendron, Virginia, Mustafa Abdullah (Marlena) of Hopewell, Virginia, Terrence Newby of Waverly, Virginia, Leonard Newby of Surry, Virginia; five sisters: Ernestine Graham (Anthony) of Surry, Virginia, Evelyn Robinson of Newport News, Virginia, Evette Newby of Newport News, Virginia, Marolyn Evans of Surry, Virginia, Carolyn Newby-Ruffin (Keith) of Dendron, Virginia, Mary Allen (Gregory) of Newport News, Virginia, Theresa Holloway of Newport News, Virginia, in laws, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
