Gladys Eley Joyner, affectionately called Bunnie entered eternal reston Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Sentara Obici Hospital Suffolk, VA.She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Hattie TylerEley and sister, Berdie Crawley. She was born and raised in Zuni, Virginia. Gladys was an alumnus ofthe former Isle of Wight County Training School.On March 13, 1948, Gladys married George Joyner and to this union five children were born.She was a memberof Chapel Grove United Church of Christ since her childhood. Sheserved on the Usher Board for many years including serving as leadusher and the financial secretary. She also served on the HospitalityCommittee and served for several years on Family and Friends Daywherever she was needed. She was member of the Golden AgeMinistry. As a member, she was instrumental in establishing thefirst Eastern Star chapter in Suffolk, Virginia. Gladys was employed for many years at Smithfield Packing Company and Zuni Presbyterian School.Her first retirement was in 1995from Southampton Correctional in Capron, Virginia and her secondretirement was in 2007 as a caregiver. Gladys was definitely aprovider because she worked many jobs to take care of her children.A strong, independent and determined woman, she testified thatshe owed it all to the Lord Almighty. Psalm 91 was one of herfavorite scripture. She dearly loved God, her family, church familyand friends.With her stylish fashions and beautiful smile with an attitude to gowith it, she earned the title of a fashion star. After all, she was aphenomenal woman. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, sons; George Joyner Jr. ofWindsor, VA. and Solomon Joyner of Chester, VA., daughters;Patricia Ann Joyner of Newport News, VA., Cynthia Tynes ofHampton, VA. and Joy Uzzle of Houston, TX.; grandchildren,Deondrea Uzzle, Keisha Tynes, Matthew Joyner, Marquis Hawkesand Makayle Hawkes; brothers, Herman Stephenson and Joseph Eley (Adele); brother-in-law, Sherman Crawley; niece, SherylCrawford; her best friend forever, Nell Roberts and family;goddaughter, Ebony Clark and a host of dear relatives andfriends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00PM Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Chapel Grove United Church of Christ, 7366 W. Blackwater Rd. Windsor, Virginia. Viewing will be held from 4-7PM on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.Interment will be in the Chapel Grove United Church of Christ cemetery. Professional Services are entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00PM Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Chapel Grove United Church of Christ, 7366 W. Blackwater Rd. Windsor, Virginia. Viewing will be held from 4-7PM on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.Interment will be in the Chapel Grove United Church of Christ cemetery. Professional Services are entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
