Geraldine T. Liggins

Geraldine Taliaferro Liggins, 81, of Smithfield, VA passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 1:39pm surrounded by her loving family. She was the oldest of four children born to the late Allen Carter and Virgie Taliaferro Carter in Isle of Wight County, Smithfield, VA. She accepted Christ at an early age while at Mt. Tabor Church of God In Christ. She later joined Sweet Haven Holy Church of God with her husband for twenty-one years. She served as a faithful Deaconess, sung for the Senior Choir and helped prepare communion. She loved to put on plays for the church.

Geraldine was employed at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital as a CNA for ten years. She enjoyed taking pictures of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved making fruitcakes for her children and church family. Also during strawberry season, she loved to pick strawberries. She loved being outside in her flower bed. She had peach, apple, and pear trees and blueberry vines. Her favorite eating spot was Golden Corral and Shrimp Shack when she left the doctor’s office and eating steam crabs.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her faithful husband of sixty years Carey D. Liggins, one sister Girlie Taliaferro Jones, parents Allen Carter and Virgie Taliaferro Carter, two grandsons Jerome Michael Uzzle and Kevin Liggins.

Geraldine leaves to cherish her memory her children; seven daughters Valerie Goodwin, Darlene Liggins, Arlene Butler (Titus), Bonnie Howell (Donald), Joann Robinson (Michael), Cynthia Liggins and Vickie Sessoms (Eric); one son Carey D. Liggins Jr. (Adriene); twelve grandchildren, many, many great and great great grandchildren; two sisters Virgie Williams and Judy Davis (Wesley); two aunts Velma Addison and Virginia Uzzle; two best friends she always loved to talk to Mrs. Maggie Delk and Ms. Patty Simmons; she also enjoyed talking to her favorite nephew-in-law James “Junnie” Liggins of Richmond, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. We will all miss her dearly.

 A Graveside Celebration will be held 12pm Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Mount Tabor COGIC Cemetery, 13468 Waterworks Road, Smithfield, VA 23430. Viewing will take place from 4-6 pm Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Liggins is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel.
