GEORGIA M. JOYNER "MOOKIE" of Newport News, VA, had an unshakable faith and would always say, "I will be here until the Good Lord gets ready for me." On Thursday, January 10, 2019, she departed this life as the "Good Lord" called her home. She was born February 16, 1937 in Smithfield, VA to the late John Spratley and Louise Cypress. Georgia was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Alfred Joyner, Sr.
Georgia is survived by five sons, two daughters, one special niece, nineteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and two Sisters.
She retired from Chase Bag Company of Newport News, VA after thirty years of service. After retirement, she spent over fifteen years serving the needy through "Operation Breaking Through Food Ministry" of Newport News, VA. She often opened her home to those needing a place to live and a warm meal to eat. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, going to wrestling matches, fishing, driving and riding motorcycles.
She attended Emmanuel Baptist Church of Smithfield, VA where she served as an usher for the majority of her life. Later, she joined House of Refuge Worship Center of Newport News, VA to support her daughter and son-in-law in ministry.
A Celebration of Life will be held 12pm Wednesday January 16, 2019 at Mountain Moving Faith Outreach Ministries. Viewing will take place Tuesday January 15, 2019 at the Chapel from 4-7pm. Professional Services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.Burial Date January 16, 2019
