Frayanda P. Freeman

In the early morning, on Sunday, May 23, 2021, Phyllis peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born January 28, 1955 to Elton and Doris Uzzle of Smithfield, Va. She was a long-time member of Brown’s A.M.E. Church, Smithfield, Va. She worked at the Newport News Shipyard as a painter for 20 plus years until her health failed. Phyllis was a faithful and dedicated person and believed in the Lord. She was loved by many that knew her. Outside yard work was one of her favorites, especially her pretty green grass, flowers and painting. She put her hands to use to help anyone she saw in need. She attended Smithfield, Virginia Public Schools.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Otis D. Freeman. She is survived by her parents Elton Sr. and Doris Uzzle, of Smithfield, Va., four children, Wallace Hill Jr. and Rashida Freeman of Smithfield, Va, Tyrhonda Cross of Franklin, Va., Tomekia Freeman of Gates, NC, a bonus daughter, Jasmine Ridley; two brothers, Elton Uzzle, Jr. and Maverick Uzzle (Maria) of Houston , Texas; seven grandchildren, Jacquari Graham and Jakwon Cross (Laurel) of Washington DC., Justice and Jalin Cross of Franklin, Va., Keyonte’ Leathers, Kamari Britt and Keyonna Britt of Gates, NC., Special friends, more like sisters, Nita Bynum, Linda Baker, Rosa Ward, Brenda Newby and Bernice Ware, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A Graveside Celebration will be held 11am Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Johnson's Family Cemetery in Corapeake, NC. Viewing will take place from 4-6 pm on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Freeman is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Freeman and Uzzle family in your thoughts and prayers.
