Frank Cleveland Young, Jr., 69, known lovingly to family and friends as "Junior", transitioned from this earthly life on Monday, April 13, 2026, at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. He was born to the late Frank C. Young, Sr. and Ellen Ree Holloman Young on September 19,1956, in Suffolk, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ellen Young, his paternal grandparents Herman and Essie Young, and his maternal grandparents George and Agnes Holloman. Frank accepted Christ at an early age at Mt Sinai Baptist Church in Ivor, Virginia.
Frank lived a life marked by service, warmth, and an unwavering devotion to those he held dear. He graduated from LP Jackson High School in Dendron, Virginia in 1975. He then pursued his education at Norfolk State University, where he majored in Mass Communication. He was a proud Spartan, carrying the spirit and camaraderie of his alma mater with him throughout his life. Driven by a deep sense of duty, Frank served his country in the United States Coast Guard, a chapter of his life that reflected his commitment to service and discipline. His military career afforded him the opportunity to live overseas in Germany, an experience that nurtured a lasting love of travel and an appreciation for the wider world.
Frank moved to the Washington, DC area where he worked as a courier for the United States Government and the City of Washington, DC. He then relocated back to the Hampton Roads area in 2005 where he worked in the auto industry and in transportation.
Those who knew Frank understood that his greatest gift was his heart. He was an exceptionally caring man whose warmth could be felt by everyone in his presence. He celebrated the successes of his family and friends with such genuine enthusiasm that one might have thought their accomplishments were his own. His pride in the people he loved was boundless and sincere. Frank also possessed a wonderful sense of humor, bringing laughter and lightness to any gathering. His comical nature was a source of joy for all who were fortunate enough to share time with him.
In quieter moments, Frank found peace and purpose in woodworking, a passion that allowed him to create with his hands and express his creativity. He also treasured time spent with family and friends, understanding that the simplest moments together often held the deepest meaning.
