The Journey

A Time to Be Born: Life’s Journey for Frank C. Young began as the fourth child born to the late Herman and Essie Young. He received his early education in the Surry public school system and several certifications from Newport News Shipyard Apprentice School.

He always believed in God’s promises. He joined New Hope Methodist Church at an early age where most of the Young family attended. He later joined Cypress Baptist Church and was a member for over 50 years. He served in the choir. He loved his church.

A Time for Every Purpose: Daddy was a praying man. He often spoke with his children, siblings, nieces and nephews and prayed with them. He and his wife Ellen Ree (Ar ree) believed in prayer, a good education, and pushed those two principles that you can accomplish anything. He retired from NORSHIPCO Shipyard after having worked at Newport News Shipyard as well, 49 years between the two.

Daddy loved his family. He had a great sense of humor and was always uplifting to anyone in his presence.

A Time to Love: He was joined in Holy Matrimony on July 25, 1953 with the love of his life Ellen Ree Young (Ar ree) as he affectionately called her. God blessed them with three children, Laura, Frank and Francine. Frank and Ellen had a love that you don’t find every day. He was so faithful to her. They were usually together most of the time. He visited in the nursing home with her every day for seven years.

A Time to Be Blessed: Daddy enjoyed a rich life. Always surrounded by many friends and family who loved and cherished him dearly. Prayer with family, motivating and giving extra attention to the children and grandchildren were his favorite things to do.

A Time To Die: Frank departed this life in the evening of November 29, 2020 in Newport News, VA at his daughter’s, Francine, home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Essie Young; two sisters, Elsie, Dorothy; six brothers, Arthur, Paul, Herbert, Clyde, Henry and Randolph. In-laws, Agnes and George Holloman.

A Time to Mourn: There are precious memories that will linger forever to all who know and loved him.
