Frances Ola Harrison Allmond, 74 of Smithfield, VA, answered the call at her residence, on Monday, March 31, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Frances was born November 14, 1950, to the late Garland Harrison, Sr. and Annie Lee William Harrison in Jarrett, Virginia, one of three children. Frances was an honor graduate of Westside High School, class of 1969. To her family and friends, she was affectionately known as “Puddin”.
On her 20th birthday, November 14, 1970, Frances married the love of her life, Melvin A. Allmond and to this union, 2 children were born, Tisha and Sheldon. Frances was an active member of Christian Home Baptist Church for over 50 years. Frances faithfully served in various capacities to include the Usher Ministry, Hospitality Committee and as a member of the Golden Age Ministry. Recently, Frances had completed training toserve as a Deaconess and was to be consecrated on March 30, 2025.
Known for her cooking, Frances shared her delicious food by catering weddings and birthday celebrations. With a generous heart, Frances fed her coworkers, when they saw her out and about, they would ask if she had a crab cake or porkchop sandwich in her purse. Frances also enjoyed preparing breakfast for Delta Sigma Theta sorority and dinner for Omega Psi Phi fraternity. Frances was a well-dressed woman, and her hat always impeccably matched her suit; the only time she attended church without a hat was when she was scheduled to usher.
Frances was predeceased in death by her parents and one brother. Frances leaves to cherish and honor her memory, her husband of 54 years, Melvin A. Allmond; daughter, isha Porter (Greg) of Windsor, VA; son, Sheldon Allmond (Nicole) of Augusta, GA; bonus son, whom she loved as her own, Adrian Batten of Germantown, MD; four grandsons whom she adored, Cedric Porter & DeMarcus Porter (Jasmine Jones) of Windsor, VA, Rome Allmond of Augusta, GA and Kevin Joy of San Diego, CA; brother, George Harrison (Barbara) of Franklin, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and best friends.
Frances will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but her memory will live on as “that hat lady of CHBC” and those that loved her most will continue to live by her mottos “keep moving” and “if I can help somebody along the way, then my living shall not be in vain”..
Viewing will take place from 3-6 pm on April 11, 2025 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Christian Home Baptist Church, Windsor, VA. Interment will follow the service in Christian Home Baptist Church Cemetery. Please keep the Allmond family in your prayers.
