Floyd Lee Spratley entered into eternal rest and answered God’s call home on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Riverside Regional Medical Center at the age of 82, Affectionately known as “Gator” Floyd was a devoted servant of the Most High God, a faithful believer, and a loving brother, uncle cousin and friend whose life reflected quiet obedience and steadfast faith.
Floyd was born on November 4, 1943, in Virginia to the late Robert Sr. and Georgetta Spratley. He was raised in Smithfield, VA with his seven siblings and educated in the public schools of Isle of Wight County. As a young man, Floyd relocated to New York, where he became an entrepreneur and owned a cleaning service. He later retired from a local paper mill in New York City. In 2013, he returned to his hometown of Smithfield, where he continued his walk with God and lived out his days anchored in faith and family.
Floyd was a humble man whose life was centered on God and His Word. A dedicated student of the Bible, he diligently sought wisdom, truth and understanding through daily study and prayer. He honored God by faithfully keeping the Sabbath holy and amassed a remarkable collection of biblical teachings and resources. Floyd expressed his faith through music, playing the guitar, and through authorship, writing a book that connected the foundations of the United States to biblical principles. His life was a testament to his belief that God’s Word should guide every aspect of living.
Beyond his devotion to God, Floyd was known for his gentlemanly spirit and dignified presence. He took pride in his sharp, classic style of dress, always carrying himself with grace and respect. His contagious laughter was a true gift often breaking silence, lifting heavy hearts and reminding those around him of joy. Floyd’s kindness, warmth and love for his family reflected the fruit of a life rooted in faith.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Spratley, Sr. and Georgetta Spratley; his sisters, Cherrie Rebecca Tucker, Pecolia Daye, Thelma Skeeter and Elizabeth Edwards; and his brothers; Robert Spratley, Jr., and Charles Spratley, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved brother, Walter Ray Spratley (Ester) of Baltimore, Maryland, brother-in-law Charlie B. Edwards along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Though he has laid down his earthly labor, Floyd’s legacy of faith obedience and love will continue to speak through all who knew him.
