Florinda Bailey Tynes

September 15, 1932 — January 25, 2015

Florinda was the first child born to the late Hilda King and Percy Bailey Sr. on September 15, 1932 in Carrollton, VA. She graduated from Isle of Wight Training School class of 1954. Through the years she worked at Luters Georgia Pacific where she met her husband James L. Tynes and on July 5, 1958 they married in holy matrimony in Smithfield, VA. They were young and full of love for one another, and to this union, nine children were born. Once all the children were in school she gained employment at Sears where she for 20 years worked until she retired in 1994. Florinda was a very humble, loving and sweet person with a magnetic personality. She loved talking and laughing she also had the biggest smile that would brighten up anyone's day. Florinda had a love for the latest fashions, but her biggest passion was sewing. She never brought anything in the store that was made right, she always had to add her magic touch to her clothes, shoes, and hats, once she did that then it was fixed to wear. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband James L. (Raymond) Tynes; four daughters Florinda ( Tascha) Guy, Connie Batten, Hilda (Kitty) Richardson and Angelia (Angie) Granby (Kenneth); two sons Raymond (Mert) Tynes and Henry (Dell) Tynes. Four sisters Shirley Chapman, Jerlean Johnson, Hazel Wrenn (Anderson) and Eva Warren; three brothers Percy Bailey Jr. (Gladys), Perry Bailey (Carrie), Iris Bailey. Three sister in laws Dorothy Byrd, Virginia Blow, Maxine Hillard, two brother in laws William Tynes and Wilbert Tynes, one aunt Grace Ridley; fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. A nephew she raised Sir Darryl Warren and a granddaughter Morgan Smith also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Viewing and visitation will be held Friday January 30, 2015 at Cooke Bros Funeral Chapel in Newport News from 4:00 pm -7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday January 31, 2015 at Campbell's Chapel AME Church, 20279 Brewers Neck Blvd Carrollton, VA. Interment immediately afterward at New Jones Grove Cemetery.
