Felton G. Clark, Sr.

Felton G Clarke, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday October 14, 2023. He was born in Isle of Wight, VA to the late Willie and Gracie Clark. He attended public school where he received a draft into the US Army at the age of 18. He answered the call February 7, 1945.  He served in WWII being stationed in the Philippines. Upon his return home he met  and married Irene Clark of Gates County, North Carolina, January 6, 1948.

During his life he served the local community at the Surry County Public School System, the Newport News Shipyard, farming crops, raising livestock and a host of other talents trades and endeavors.

He was most honored to be a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He pastored the church of our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostles faith in Newport News for over 50 years. He was a believer and loved the Lord. He was known for sharing the Gospel t whoever he encountered and often visited those who were ill in the hospital to comfort and pray with them. His favorite songs of worship were “Mine, Mine, Jesus is Mine” and “One Lord, One faith, One Baptism”. He was adamant in teaching his family how to live a holy life and laid the foundation for his family’s steadfast belief on the Lord Jesus.

Felton and Irene settled down in Surry County, Virginia and raised 15 children. He was preceded in death by two of his children Hazel Clark and Darrin Clark.

Surviving is his wife Irene Clark, his children, Felton Clark, Jr.,   Steve Clark, Irene Brumley, Mabel Pittman, Marianne Armstrong, Orron Clark, Karl Clark, Linda Clark, Jeannie Burr, Quintus , Quintus Clark, Daniel Clark, Scherry Clark, and June Clark. Also surviving are a host of companions, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins.

On Thursday, October 19, 2023 a viewing will be held from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 1pm also at the Chapel. Interment will occur immediately following the service at the F.G. Clark, Sr. Family Cemetery. Please keep the Clark family in your thoughts and prayers.
