Evwell Batten Sr.

Evwell Batten, Sr., a native of Smithfield, Virginia, was born February 9, 1953, to the late Elder Russell Batten and Mrs. Anna Batten. Evwell transitioned on September 7, 2020, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Earnest, George, Julius, Bruce and Russell; as well as his son, Corey Porter. Evwell is survived by his wife Marilyn Batten; his children, Renee Cowling, Evwell Batten, Jr., Duane Batten, Nishaka Roney, Cory Spratley and Imani Batten; sisters, Eva Cypress, Kanzi Terrell, Carnell Raines, Ethel Brown and Pearline Batten; eight grandchildren; a host of cousins, nephew, nieces, and other relatives; and many, many friends. A Graveside Celebration will be held 11am Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Christian Home Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will take place on Friday, September 11, 2020 from 4-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mr. Batten is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Batten family in your prayers. Being Mindful of the season we are sharing, at the request of the family only the immediate family will be permitted at the actual grave site.
