Obituary

Ever Dean Pierce Maney transitioned from this life on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Windsor Grove Health & Rehab, Windsor, VA.

Ever Dean Maney (Pierce) was one of four children and the only daughter of the late Major B. Pierce, Sr. and Gracie Myrtle Wells Pierce, was born May 15, 1932 in Surry, VA.

She was raised in Rushmere, VA, attended the Isle of Wight Training School. She excelled in both Academics and ports, with a great love for swimming, softball, track and basketball. She became a women’s Basketball State Champion and graduate of Virginia State University.

Affectionately called “Baby Dean” she began working at an early age, taking on tasks like milking cows, feeding the yard animals and house chores. As she got older, she would travel to Atlantic City, NJ with a chaperone for work over the summers. After college, she went to work for Western Electric Company, substituted as a Math and Physical Education teacher for the Kenilworth School System- spent some time working foe Stonco and worked for over three decades at NJ Bell Atlantic until she retired in 1993.

On November 30, 1957, Ever Dean married Joseph Lee Maney, Sr. They had three children, Vivian, Yvette and Joseph Jr.(aka Papa) who they raised in Kenilworth, NJ.

Ever Dean accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of First Gravel Baptist Church (FGHBC) her entire life. While living in New Jersey, she was also a faithful member of Union Baptist Church (UBC). Regardless of the building she loved to serve the Lord! Over the years, she held various positions of ministry from the Usher Board, Trustee and Women’s Ministry to Youth Leader and Choir Member just to name a few. She proudly served on the Loretta Johnson Memorial Missionary Circle at FGHBC. Even in later years when she couldn’t attend in person, she would tune in virtually every Sunday like clockwork. Anyone who truly knew he, knew that her signature phrase was “God is good all the time, all the time God is good, “ accompanied by the infamous finger point.

She also enjoyed past times such as playing the piano and organ, crocheting, gardening, completing puzzles, exercising and water aerobics. You could often spot her walking the nearby trail or sitting out on the front porch, either watching planes fly over or simply appreciating the sunshine and fresh air. Over the years, she became an enthusiastic football fan and proudly rooted for the Baltimore Ravens. She was a dedicated member of the NAACP, as well as the Rushmere Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for 25 years. Above all else, she was deeply devoted to her family. She cared for her late husband and mother, catered to her children and played an active role in each of her grandchildren’s lives. She was regarded as Aunt Dean or Mother Dean to many-whether they were blood related or not- because she touched so many people and was held in high esteem as the matriarch of our family. She was a loving, compassionate, uplifting, energetic, creative, strong and God fearing woman. Her presence was like a warm embrace and will truly be missed.
