Carrollton: Evelyn Riddick Newby 64, departed this life on Thursday December 04, 2014. She was born to the late Charlie Sr. and Alice Holloway Edwards. She was preceded in death by her brother Charlie (B.B.) Edwards Jr. Evelyn graduated from Westside High School in 1968 where she was a cheerleader and on the basketball team. She went on in life to get her LPN degree in Pennsylvania. Evelyn was a coach for Parks & Recreation for years. She was always trying to find different positive activities to get the youth busy in the community. Evelyn loved to be busy. Her last occupation was at South Hampton County where she served for 20 years working with the Senior Services. She took pride in serving the seniors in that county making sure they had air conditions and fans in the summer and during the holidays Evelyn along with her husband and son took them all food baskets. She is survived by her husband of 9 years Juan A. Newby ; one son Tarus Riddick; one daughter Shundra D. Newby and two grandchildren Kaiden and Shamyah of Smithfield, Va.; one brother George Franklin Edwards of Newport News, Va.; two sisters Elaine Robertson(George) of Gloucester, Va. And Naomi Horton(Richard) TX; two god-daughters Pamela Hill and Sarah Joy Hill and a host of relatives and friends. A Funeral Service will be held 12pm Monday, December 08, 2014 at Brown's AME Church.
