Smithfield: The Life of Evelyn E. Moton Presenting her body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, Evelyn did not grow weary in well doing realizing that our time of service on earth is numbered.God being pleased with her work here whispered "It's time" on July 7, 2014.Evelyn answered the call to come home surrounded by her family in her home in Windsor, VA. Evelyn was born November 23, 1944 in Newport News, VA to Mary F. Hardy.She became the beloved wife of Earl R. Moton on August 2, 1986. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.She was here for 69 years some of us had her 69 years while others may have had her 6 years but no matter how many years we had to share with her she put a smile on all of our faces at some point. At an early age Evelyn gave her life to Christ and joined Zion Union Baptist Church in Charlottesville, VA.In 2000 she became a disciple of Solomon's Temple.While at Solomon's Temple she was a Servant Leader, CID teacher, choir member, trustee, disciple of women's ministry, couples ministry, outreach ministry and hospitality ministry.Along with being a part of these ministries she had hobbies like reading, sewing, cooking and always wanted to add swimming to the list but was scared to go into the water. Before she became ill she worked at Gwaltney of Smithfield for 10 years and later for Isle of Wight County Public School Food Service for 5 years. Evelyn was preceded in death by two of her children Rosemary and David Henderson. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband Earl, along with her mother Mary F. Hardy.Earl and Evelyn were married for 27 years and 11 months and together cherishing her memory are their children Carl Henderson, Faye Gray, and Katrina Moton of Smithfield along with Deunco Moton (Shannon) of Yorktown.She will be greatly missed by 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.To cherish her memory also will be her sister Nettie Frye, her mother-in-law Shirley M. Bailey, four brother-in-laws, three sister-in-laws and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a loving church family. Services for Sis. Evelyn Moton will include viewing/ visitation and a tribute /reflection time from 7:00 -8:00 p.m. Friday July 11th and the service of celebration will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday at the chapel Arrangements by Shivers Funeral Chapel.
