I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only; but unto all them also that love his appearing" II Timothy 4:7-8 On Saturday, November 7, 2020, God sent his heavenly angels down to escort, Eva Celester Batten Cypress from her earthly home to her eternal home. She was born May 21, 1941 in Smithfield to the late Elder Russell Batten, Sr. and Anna Batten. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Earnest, George, Julius, Bruce, Russell and Evwell; her son, Leon Batten; as well as her grandson, Corey Faltz. She was educated in the Isle of Wight County Public School system and was employed by Smithfield Packing and worked their faithfully until she retired due to illness. She was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church, Smithfield, VA until her health prevented her from doing so. Eva was a wonderful cook and was known for her delicious fried chicken and white potatoes. She was widely known for her fried crab recipe. Even in her sickness, she always had a smile on her face and kept her faith. Eva is survived by her children, Anna Faltz (Joseph); Pernell Batten (Deildra); Linwood Cypress, Jr. (Hilja); Felicia Ballard (James); Lavon Johnson(Gary); Lawrence Cypress (Lisa); and Lorita Cypress; sisters, Kanzie Terrell; Carnell Raines (Melvin); Ethel Brown and Pearlie Batten; eighteen grandchildren; forty-four great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. A Graveside Celebration will be held 12pm Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Christian Home Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will take place Friday, November 13, 2020 from 4-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Cypress is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Graveside Celebration will be held 12pm Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Christian Home Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will take place Friday, November 13, 2020 from 4-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Cypress is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel.
