Elton's Journey

On Thursday, June 29, 2023, Elton Uzzle left this world behind and answered the Master’s Call. Elton was born October 29, 1933 in Isle of Wight County to the late Isaac Uzzle & Otelia Berry Uzzle. He was preceded in death by his 12 siblings and his beautiful daughter, Frayanda Phyllis Uzzle Freeman.

Elton was educated in the Isle of Wight Training Schools. Elton was employed by the Newport News Shipyard for over 35 years & retired as a supervisor. In addition, he graduated from Pruden Technical Center and became a skillful carpenter. He loved baseball, bowling, skating, fishing, and he loved and adored his family very much.

He was a faithful member of Brown's African Methodist Episcopal Church and dedicated his life to the Lord at an early age. Elton used his voice to sing praises to God in the Dara Owens Mass Choir, the male chorus and the cathedral choir. He also served diligently on the trustee board and finance ministry.

Elton leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of over 65 years, Doris S. Uzzle; two sons, Elton E. Uzzle (Joy), Maverick Uzzle (Maria); 10 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren & great-great grandchildren. Elton was also blessed to have a host of in laws, extended family and cherished friends who also loved him dearly.

Elton was a hardworking man who lived by the principles of integrity, perseverance and respect. He showed love in his daily walk and was willing to help others in any way he could with a smile on his face. Elton’s memory will live on within all who loved and cared for him.

Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00pm on Sunday, July 09, 2023 at Brown's AME Church, Smithfield.  Viewing will take place on Saturday, July 08, 2023 from 2-5pm at the chapel. Please keep the Uzzle family in your thoughts and prayers.
