Elizabeth S. Edwards

July 31, 1933 — February 12, 2021

"The silence came oh so slow as we wept and watched you go. Calling out to love ones, name by name, it is comforting to know you are with them again. When all your troubles now have passed, and your body is free of pain at last." T'was the glad morning of Feb. 12, 2021, when Elizabeth S. Edwards boarded the old ship of Zion. Elizabeth (Liz) was born July 31, 1933. She was the eldest of nine children born to the late Robert and Georgetta Spratley. At an early age, she was baptized and joined the Little Zion Baptist Church. There she grew in the knowledge of the Lord and served faithfully in the Music, Sunday School, Missionary and Bible Study Ministries. She loved her church, Pastor and members. She did not take her role as the domineering matriarch and was well respected as such. Hence, she may not have always been right, but she was never wrong. Not many family events happened without her presence and/or approval. She led with a firm hand and loved with a tough heart. Liz was what you needed when you needed, where you needed, and how you needed. Those delicious homemade rolls and biscuits earned her the title of Chef. If you were sick, having a baby, getting a promotion, getting married, getting divorced, in trouble, short on cash, didn't know what to do or say, need a spade partner, a riding buddy, a shoulder to cry on; Elizabeth was there. Elizabeth enjoyed studying the Word as much as she loved praising the Lord. She was a firm believer in prayer and felt it was her duty to pray for everyone. She loved singing in the choir and preparing her Sunday School lessons. Elizabeth loved her family and is evident by her "Wall of Family"; which she created so that she would always be surrounded by them. It served as a source of comfort for her while going through. Elizabeth was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Georgetta Spratley; a son, Perry Edwards (Joe), a grandson, David Edwards (Rashaun); three sisters, Cherrie Tucker (Beck), Pecolia Daye (Penny), and Thelma Skeeter (Boolie), and two brothers; Robert Spratley Jr. (Frog) and Charles Spratley Sr. (Chip). She leaves to cherish her memories a husband of 66 years Charlie B. Edwards Sr.; three sons; Charlie B. Edwards Jr., Steven Edwards (Gina), and Randy Edwards (Arnetta), one loving and devoted daughter; Wendy Edwards, one special grandson, Joseph Edwards, and her "ride or die" niece, Stephanie LeGrand; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-greatgrandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. "The world is moving faster now, We're on a changing course. But you have helped us deal with life, you've been a stable force."
