Edward O. Drew, Sr.

Edward Oscar Drew Sr., affectionately known as Bert, was granted his wings on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at the age of 84 at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, Virginia.

Edward was born December 4, 1938 to the late Gertrude and Joe Drew. Edward accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Ivor, Virginia. In his later years he became a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Smithfield, Virginia until his untimely death.

Edward was educated at Surry County public schools. He was a truck driver for Smithfield Packing Company, from which he retired after 33 years of service. He was also a bail bondsman and car salesman. Edward was always very sharp in his suits and hat, even when you saw him in the grocery stores. Edward loved people and loved spending time with his family fishing on his boat.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Beverly Drew; three brothers, Joe, Aullie and Arthur Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Susie W. Drew of Smithfield, Virginia; daughter, Susie Ann Femell of Windsor, Virginia; sons, Edward Drew Jr. (Jackie) of Smithfield, Willie Drew Sr. (Remona) of Smithfield, and Calvin Drew of Newport News, Virginia; sister, Hellie Mae Wells of Newport News, Virginia; brother, Willie Drew (Sarah) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Ray Shaun Delk, Tyrell Johnson, Tokia Goodman, Montrell Johnson, Elanté Drew, Alantiss Johnson, Willie Drew Sr. and Ceciara Drew; great grandchildren, Tatiana Johnson, Moni Ciono Johnson and Azareiah Johnson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00pm on Saturday, January 07, 2023 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Viewing will take place on Friday, January 06, 2023 from 3-6pm at the chapel. Please keep the Drew family in your thoughts and prayers.
