On Thursday, August 27, 2015, Eddie Thomas Banks passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family at his bedside. He was the first born to the late William and Kathleen Banks of Southampton County on September 5, 1944, He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Ricks. He attended Hayden High School in Franklin, Virginia. He joined Beulah Land A.M.E. Zion Church at an early age and was a faithful member until his eternal rest. He served as a trustee and was a member of the male choir. He was employed at Newport News Shipyard (Northrop Grumman), Gwaltney Foods, Southampton Memorial Hospital, and help to build VEPCO (Dominion Virginia Power). He was also a great farmer. He enjoyed worker side by side with his father in the fields of Southampton County. Eddie later retired from Union Camp Corporation (International Paper) after several years of service. On August 31, 1968, he married Irene Hargrave, and to this union one child was born, Eric Kenneth Banks. Eddie loved fellowshipping with his family and friends. He also enjoyed taking leisure drives on the country roads of Surry and Isle of Wight Counties. Eddie was a very compassionate man and made everyone he encountered feel welcomed. Eddie enjoyed providing a helping hand for those in need. Joyful memories will forever remain in the hearts of his son, Eric Banks (Keisha), Greensboro, NC; Eric's devoted mother, Irene Hargrave Banks, Ivor, VA; his sisters, Lucille Turner of Ivor, VA, Judy Eley (Lloyd) of Windsor, VA, and Sarah Sellers (William) of Hampton, VA; his brothers, Clinton Banks (Darlene) of Newport News, VA, George Banks (Pamela), Suffolk, VA, and William Banks, Jr. (Anna Liza) of Negros Oriental Philippines; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Beulah Land A.M.E. Zion Church, 34122 Appleton Road, Ivor, VA 23866. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Shivers FuneralChapel.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Beulah Land A.M.E. Zion Church, 34122 Appleton Road, Ivor, VA 23866. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Shivers Funeral Chapel.
