Donald L. Wells, Sr.

Our beloved Donald Lee Wells Sr., (Duck) passed away with family by his side, Tuesday, November 11th, 2025, in Newport News, Va.

Duck was born August12, 1965 in Suffolk, VA to the late George R. Wells and Frances Cotton Wells-Robertson. He was a quiet and easy going child. He stayed out of trouble and was loved by everyone. He graduated from Smithfield High School Class of 1983. He played the nose guard position for the Smithfield Packers #64. He also played softball, baseball and basketball. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1986 where he was a Boiler Technician and Security Officer. He received many awards for his hard work and ingenuity.

Duck retired from the Newport News Shipyard as a Senior Pipe Fitter. He enjoyed spending time with family, grilling, playing cards and listening to old school music. Donald was a man of God and he loved The Lord. He prayed for his family and friends. He was always giving thanks to The Most High for all that he had. He was an Amazing Son, Loving Father, Protector, Provider, The Best Pop Pop, Caring Brother, Supportive Uncle Duck, Charitable Neighbor, a Great Friend and a Humble Servant. He loved to laugh and have a good time. and he won’t f or no foolishness. Lastly, he never missed an opportunity to express his love for his family. He will be missed dearly. He is truly one of a kind! We love you Duck may you rest n perfect peace!

He was preceded in death by his father George R. Wells. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Frances Cotten Wells-Robertson and Stepfather Jimmy. Three daughters, Atoyia, Atia, and Shardai (Dana) and one son Donald Jr.(Ciera). Seven grandchildren Dezmond, Angelo, Daryll, Tyler, Eden, Mia and Izaiyah. Three sisters Sheila (Terry), Gloria (Ray), Stephanie and one brother George (Latisha). Two Stepbrothers Jim and Tory. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

On Monday, November 17, 2025, viewing will take place from 3-6pm at the Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00pm on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Chapel. Interment will follow the service with Navy Honors in the Tynes Memorial Cemetery, Berry Hill Road, Smithfield, VA 23430. Please keep the Wells family in your prayers.
