With hearts filled with love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the homegoing of Brother Desi Amaz Major, who entered eternal rest and peace on October 22, 2025, at his home in Claremont, Virginia.

Desi A. Major was a native of Isle of Wight County, born on June 13,1954, to the late Carl and Luverdia Major, Sr. He attended Isle of Wight County Schools and went on to work diligently at Newport News Shipbuilding Company, where he served faithfully for more than 30 years in Department X32, Sheet Metal.

Desi was a member of Union Bethel A.M.E. Church and proudly served as a member of the Most Worshipful Consolidated Hiram Grand Lodge of the State of Virginia AF&AM of New­ port News, Virginia, and Oak Grove Lodge #17 in Spring Grove, Virginia, in which he was a Master Mason.

Known for his quiet strength and kind heart, Desi was a man of few words whose love and sincerity touched everyone who knew him. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and especially treasured moments with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Luverdia Major,Sr.; his brother, Carl Major, Jr.; his nephew, William Marcelus Major, Sr.; and his grandson, Dynez Jamar Major.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Evelyn Major; one daughter, Delvonne Major (Tristain Taylor) of Spring Grove, VA; three sons, Corey Goodwin (Cassandra) of Mobile, AL, Darius Major (Arnita) of Mason, OH, and Kevin Pace of Smithfield, VA; and two bonus daughters, Adrienna Johns (Wilhelm) of Surry, VA, and Raven Shaw ( Derrick) of Waverly, VA.

He is also survived by three sisters: Lois Atkins (Cary) of Troutville, VA; Elma Smith of Franklin, VA; and Lucy Watkins (Rodney) of Newport News, VA; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Saunders (Donald) and Lisha Blizzard (Clinton);fifteen grandchildren, Keyonda and Jahvier Major;Jacory and TreyQuan Goodwin; Christopher Whitaker; Za'Nyia Wells; Jayla, Darius, Aleena, and Joni Major; Anaiyah and Malachi Johns; Kamari Shaw, A'Miracle, and Derrick Jr. Walters, and four great-grandchildren :Ka'Ori Gatling, Ky'Aaire Goodwin, Sy'Aire Artis, and Ky'ra Goodwin.

He will also be lovingly remembered by a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends.

Desi's legacy of love, humility, and faith will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew him. His presence may be gone, but his spirit will forever remain a guiding light to those he loved.

On Friday, October 31, 2025, viewing will take place from 4-6 pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11am Saturday, November 1, 2025, also at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Major Family in your thoughts and prayers.
