The Life of Decatur "Bubba" Fisher
On November 8, God in his infinite wisdom and his divine purpose and power called Decatur "Bubba" to his heavenly home. Decatur known as "Bubba" was born February 12, 1936, in Southampton County to the late William and Ruth Spratley Fisher of Ivor, VA. He was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church until his health began to fail. He always kept a smile on his face when listening to the Word of God and clap his hand quietly. He retired from the Newport News Shipyard after many years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Ruth Spratley Fisher, son James A. Fisher, grandson Jermaine Stokes, four sisters Delois Robertson, Irene Purdie, Laura M. Edwards, and Eva Holloman and two brothers Crawley Fisher and William Fisher Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life and devoted wife Marvin Clark Fisher of sixty-eight years of marriage; one devoted daughter Evangelist Laverne Stokes (Ocie) of Smithfield, VA; devoted granddaughter Dr. Candice Laverne Stokes Edwards (Dontae) of Concord, NC; one grandson Telvin Ricks of Smithfield, VA; one great granddaughter Lazya Johnson of Concord, NC; two great grandsons Deontae Edwards and Deontre Edwards of Concord, NC; one sister Louise Fisher Haskins (James) of Ivor, VA; one aunt Gladys Spratley Ruffin of Richmond, VA; sister-in-law Alma C. Hill of Surry, VA; two brothers-in-law James B. Haskins, Ivor, VA and Richard Clarke (Dorothy) of Wakefield, VA. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3: 16, KJV)
