Decatur Crocker, Jr.

May 20, 1964 — December 4, 2023

Smithfield

On, Monday December 4, 2023 our beloved son, brother, uncle, God father, Deacon and friend Decatur {Bro} Crocker entered eternal rest at Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia.  Decatur {Bro} was born on May 20, 1964 to Decatur Sr and Elizabeth Crocker.

Decatur {Bro} joined Hill Street Baptist Church at an early age and later relocated to Main Street in Smithfield, Virginia.  He served on several church ministries including a Deacon, and the Men of Music choir.   Also, worked at the Day Care for many years.

Decatur graduated from Smithfield High School in June 1982. He enjoyed high school and was a fun and loving student. After high school Decatur {Bro} worked in the food industry {Hardee’s, Morrison’s Cafeteria and Smithfield High School Cafeteria}.

Decatur {Bro} developed a love for cooking, playing board games, checkers, and backgammon.  He loved meeting new people and being involved in community affairs.  He would always lend a hand.  He was truly a gifted chef in the kitchen.  He was always smiling and would make frequent trips to the ice cream parlor.  He would sit on the bench and people watch.  He spoke to everyone that walked by as he would enjoy his ice cream.  He had a smile for everyone.

His favorite scripture was John 3:16-21 [“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”  [John 3:16-21 KJV]

He was preceded in death by his dad {Decatur Crocker Sr.} brother {Alphonzo Godwin}, and his grand parents, paternal and maternal. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving mother, Elizabeth Crocker of Smithfield, VA; three sisters, Fostiletta Major {Ronnie} Bridgette Fields and Kimberly Crocker of Smithfield, VA, God daughter [Shaina James], nephew {Makhi Stone}, nieces {Dacia Webb},  {Ebony Major} and a host of relatives and friends.

On Saturday, December 9, 2023 a Viewing will take place from 2-5pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. On Sunday, December 10, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held 1pm at Main Street Baptist Church Smithfield, VA. Please keep the Crocker family in your thoughts and prayers.
