Deacon Junius C. Rodgers, Sr.

April 13, 1930 — October 16, 2021

Last Journey There is a train at the station with a seat reserved just for me. I’m excited about its destination As I have heard it sets you free The trials and tribulations The pain and stress we breathe don’t exist where I’m going Only happiness I believe Deacon Junius Clifton Rodgers, Sr. answered the Master’s call on October 16, 2021. He was born in New York City on April 13, 1930 to the late Rev. Charlie Calvin Rodgers and Quintella Pugh Rodgers. Deacon Rodgers graduated from East Suffolk High School. He attended Norfolk State Division of Virginia State College (now Norfolk State University). He served his country in the United States Army. He was a civil servant for the Department of Defense for over thirty-five years as an aircraft comptroller at the Naval Air Rework Facility in Norfolk, VA. He was a motor coach operator for Lassiter and Gaines Bus Services. He was also a driver for the Isle of Wight County School System. Junius received many awards for his faithful and dedicated service. He was thrilled to attend the national Veterans Golden Age Games where he competed in nine ball and won a silver medal. Deacon Rodgers served as chairman of the Diaconate Ministry at First Church of Newport News (Baptist). He was a driver for their Feed the Hungry Ministry for many years. As a member of Main Street Baptist Church he was devoted to the Men’s Ministry. On September 27, 1980 Junius and Ernestine were joined together in Holy matrimony. He promised to take her around the world and he did just that. Europe was one of their most enjoyable destinations which included the fulfillment of his dream to see the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace and visits to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum and The French Riviera. Junius leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of forty- one years Ernestine, four beloved children; Junius C. Rodgers, Jr. (deceased), Kenneth Chapman (Jenine), Dr. Michelle Chapman- Bridges (Alfred), Dr. Andria Chapman-Taliaferro (Carlos), Grandchildren; Dr. Cariana Clanton (Keyon) Aniya Taliaferro, Cameron Brazzell, Ciani Taliaferro, Ansolei Taliaferro and Chanara Taliaferro; a great granddaughter Samaiya Ann Clanton. His remaining sibling is Reverend Dr. Robert E. Rodgers. Marie Fredrick, Alvin Rodgers and Helen Wellons are siblings that preceded him in death. A host of nieces, nephews and will miss and treasure him always. “Hallelujah, salvation, and glory, Honor and power unto the Lord our God, For the Lord our God is almighty, Yes, the Lord our God is omnipotent, The Lord our God, He is Wonderful. All Praises be to the King of Kings. “ To God be all the glory! A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Main Street Baptist Church.
