David Lee Claud, Sr. entered eternal rest on December 17, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. A native of Southampton County, he was born to the late Thomas Lee Claud and Dotsie Ann Barnes Claud, February 11, 1966. He attended Southampton High School where he received his early education and graduated in 1984.
Upon high school graduation, David joined the United States Army in August 1984 and served his country with great pride and distinction.
On January 1, 1994, David married the love of his life, Robin Denise Wingo and to this union David Robert-Lee Claud, Jr. was born. David also has a beautiful daughter, Ashley Shanielle Johnson and grandson, Jaylen Tyshaun Scott.
After David’s military service, his career path led him to be gainfully employed with the Newport News Shipyard and later becoming a correctional officer with the Greenfield, Deerfield and Southampton Centers where he retired after 26 years of service on March 1, 2016.
At an early age, David was baptized, accepted Jesus as his Savior and joined Bryants Baptist Church in Capron, VA. David was a quiet, gentle child, the youngest boy of seven siblings. David enjoyed playing with his siblings and cousins, especially on Sundays at his grandparents' home. He loved learning from the elderly, respecting their age and knowledge. He felt that he and his Aunt Bea Gary had a special spiritual bond.
David was very organized and an avid fan of the Washington "Redskins". He loved playing the lottery, gardening, fishing, cars, his westerns and traveling. David found joy in assisting others to strive to their full potential by offering encouraging words and opening his home.
David was predeceased in death by his grandparents, father and mother-in-law, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law and cousins. David leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Robin Denise Claud; son, David Lee Claud, Jr.; daughter, Ashley Shanielle Johnson; brothers, Zachary T. Claud of Chesterfield, VA and Michael Claud of Capron, VA; sisters, Dotsie Claud and Jacqueline Claud Allen (Luther) of Norfolk, VA, Janeifer Claud Smith (Anthony, Sr.) of Fairfax, VA and Tracy Claud Barksdale of Woodbridge, VA; godchildren, Cameron Fields and Tiana Parker; love for his two remaining aunts, Elsie Gary (Aunt Bea), and Elizabeth Taylor (Aunt Lizzie), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
On Friday, December 26, 2025 viewing will take place from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Smithfield, VA. Interment will follow the service in the Pine Level Cemetery, Pine Level Rd., Capron, Va. 23829. Please keep the Claud family in your prayers.
